I refuse to clap for a pilot after he lands the plane and he hasn’t killed us all.
That’s in his job description so it’s the least he can do, rude

people DO this? “YAY WE’RE NOT DEAD!” seems tacky to me. probably hurts the pilots self esteem.

TO BE FAIR. As a student pilot myself, trying to land with crazy amounts of crosswind and all engines failed? It’s fucking frightening. And I only did this in a simulator! Imagine in real life. Although, my scariest landing has to be when we were on approach and there was a 747 A FUCKING MILE behind us and we were too low to go round and the ground was rushing up fast and my instructor’s knuckles were white on the control column. I wanted to jump him when he landed us and we managed to turn off the runway just as the 747 landed - it was so close, our little plane shook from the wake created by it going past us.

Not that anyone was interested in the above…

My point being, it’s not the fact that the pilot landed the plane safely without killing everyone, it’s the fact that these things can happen extremely unexpectedly and unless you’re a test pilot (I once saw a documentary of a test stealth plane FREE FALLING 15000 FEET before the test pilot regained control and watching that was nerve-wracking but he was so damn calm on the radio as he tried NOT TO DIE) - you need balls of fucking steel to not want to shit yourself and cower in the corner of the flight deck.
